OpenAI has introduced Space and Pages inside ChatGPT, adding a shared workspace for documents, images, visualizations, recurring briefs and collaborative editing, initially for Pro and Business users with broader access expected soon.
Space acts as a central workspace that gathers assets created across ChatGPT, including generated images, sites and connected files from Google Drive. In practical terms, it organizes material users already make in chats, but in one place instead of scattering outputs across separate conversations.
The main new feature is Pages, a document workspace that resembles a modern note-taking editor but is tightly linked to ChatGPT tools. Users can open existing pages or create a new one directly in Space, then write, revise and structure long-form content without leaving the app.
Users can highlight a passage and request a targeted rewrite with an Ask for change command, useful for smoothing awkward transitions or improving wording. A separate Generate tool can insert drafted text into a selected spot, such as statistics or supporting material, while the main chat panel can reshape an entire page, for example turning rough notes into a teleprompter-ready script.
Pages supports the @ symbol to bring in ChatGPT or custom assistants, referred to as dots, for more context-heavy tasks. That allows a page to pull in information such as talking points from prior email or project material, assigning work to an assistant that can act on broader context than a single highlighted sentence.
A page does not have to start blank. Users can ask ChatGPT during a conversation to turn research or an idea into a dedicated page for planning, outlining or drafting. That makes the tool well suited to workflows that begin in chat and later expand into a more structured document.
One of the more practical uses is an automatically refreshed page such as a daily morning brief. A page can be scheduled to update at regular intervals and include sections for email, Slack messages and tasks, creating a standing dashboard for the day’s priorities.
Pages also supports reusable prompt snippets inserted with a slash command. A user can review a daily brief, make decisions inside the document, then click a saved prompt that launches a new chat instructing ChatGPT to implement those decisions, reducing repeat manual prompting.
Pages can hold images side by side, making it useful for comparing design variations such as alternate thumbnails or color treatments. However, image generation inside the page currently appears limited because the standalone image tool may not reliably use surrounding page context, while the chat-based approach performs better for creating edited variants.
Pages can be shared with other people and can present information through charts, tables, graphs and even interactive calculators. Revenue tables, quarterly summaries and similar reports can be turned into visuals directly in the workspace, although the most reliable method appears to be invoking visualization tools through chat rather than only through the top toolbar.
Shared pages allow multiple people to add edits, comments, visuals and ideas in one place, making the feature useful for group planning such as travel itineraries or project documents. ChatGPT’s desktop app also includes a Meetings plugin that can join scheduled meetings, take notes, and produce a new page containing the meeting transcript and structured notes afterward.
Space and Pages push ChatGPT beyond a chat interface into a persistent work environment for writing, planning and collaboration. The feature set is already broad, and its impact will depend on how quickly the rougher tools, especially image and visualization workflows, become more context-aware and polished.
