Apple, Palantir, Google, Shopify, CrowdStrike and SpaceX all moved markets and strategy debates as investors weighed strong growth against rising AI costs, shifting internet traffic and new competition in security and space manufacturing.
Apple reported record September-quarter revenue and beat earnings estimates, yet the stock fell about 2% as investors focused on warnings that higher memory chip prices and the cost of running AI features could squeeze margins. The concern reflects a broader issue for hardware companies: AI workloads are becoming more expensive while consumer pricing remains relatively sticky. Apple has historically avoided frequent price changes, making mid-cycle cost inflation harder to pass through.
Palantir also beat expectations, with quarterly revenue running at roughly $2.3 billion annualized to $9.25 billion, supporting a market value near $400 billion. Its U.S. commercial revenue reached $984 million, surpassing U.S. government revenue of $953 million for the first time. That shift suggests demand is broadening beyond defense into enterprise AI deployments built around existing data, workflow integration and organization-wide transformation.
Debate around Google intensified as AI-generated search increasingly keeps users inside Google’s own interface rather than sending them to external sites. Critics argue this creates an adversarial relationship with publishers, media groups and software companies that depend on search traffic. Even so, Google’s scale, cloud business, custom chips and cash flow from search still make a long-term bearish case difficult, especially if AI infrastructure spending continues rising.
Reddit became a focal point in the broader fight over referral traffic. The company signaled that users still want Reddit content, but Google is no longer sending visitors at historical levels. That adds to evidence that AI summaries and in-search answers are weakening the old web model in which search reliably pushed users to forums, media outlets and content-driven software funnels.
In enterprise large-language-model spending, Anthropic and OpenAI were described as accounting for 86% of API spend, up from 67%, indicating a tightening duopoly among frontier-model providers. Google’s share of enterprise builder usage was said to have fallen sharply, though some of that demand still benefits Google Cloud through infrastructure and TPU consumption. The result is a market where model leadership and cloud economics are increasingly intertwined.
Shopify reported $119 billion in gross merchandise volume, up 29.5%, $3.7 billion in revenue, up 32%, and a 22% free-cash-flow margin. The company said brands including MAC, Clinique, Balmain and Lululemon moved onto its platform. Shopify also pointed to rising traction in AI-driven shopping, saying traffic from agentic commerce was up 2.6 times year over year and orders rose 3.3 times, with conversion roughly 2 times higher than general AI search.
CrowdStrike agreed to acquire Fiddler AI and Dreadnode for a combined $495 million, underscoring how quickly cybersecurity vendors are consolidating around AI risk. The move comes as companies increasingly treat AI systems as high-value attack surfaces that require monitoring, testing and emergency controls. The acquisitions reflect demand for tools that can secure models, agents and the broader enterprise software stack around them.
Fresh scrutiny also landed on the economics of AI services after comments that servicing one fast-growing assistant product had become unsustainably expensive relative to revenue. The episode highlighted a central tension in the market: companies are racing to provide cheap or free AI functionality while compute and model costs remain high. Investors are likely to keep testing whether usage growth can eventually translate into durable margins.
SpaceX introduced Starfall, a platform for routine access to microgravity for biomedical research, pharmaceutical development and advanced materials work in low Earth orbit. The effort targets use cases such as medical implants, stem-cell organoids, drug crystals and semiconductor manufacturing. The launch was seen as validation for the broader thesis that space-based manufacturing could become a meaningful commercial category rather than a niche science project.
In a notable branding move, Shopify spent $99 million to acquire Shop.com, one of the largest domain purchases on record. The price was widely viewed as steep in absolute terms but attractive for a globally recognizable consumer web address. The purchase strengthens Shopify’s push to make Shop a broader front door for online commerce.
The latest earnings and product launches show that AI is boosting growth across software, commerce and infrastructure while simultaneously pressuring margins, traffic flows and competitive positioning. The next phase will hinge less on adoption alone and more on who can turn AI scale into durable economics and distribution.
